Introduction

MLFA U18s Girls Football (Soccer) Squad

        Mission and Goals

  • To provide girls with the opportunity to continue playing club football above the age of 14 years, and to bridge the gap between U14 and senior level women’s football.
  • To be the BEST women’s football club in HK offering opportunities to ALL girls regardless of their background and socio-economic circumstances.
  • To be inclusive by offering an English and Cantonese-speaking learning environment.

  • To be a fully bona fide club.

  • To create a clear pathway to excellence, whether at senior club, College or National team level.

     Recruitment

We welcome ALL girls from any club/school to try-out for the team. No special privileges will be given to girls from any one school/club.

        Coaches

The coaches are all well qualified and experienced with proven success records in youth coaching and girls youth coaching.

  1. Head Coach: Gavin McDermott

A physical educator for 15 years and a coach for over 17, Gavin has followed his passion for teaching sport in the United Kingdom, the United States, Korea and, for the last eight years, here in Hong Kong.

    Head Coach: Kelly Lindsey

Kelly Lindsey was an All-American, four- year starter and two-time team captain on the Notre Dame women’s soccer team. Kelly was a part of the United States Women’s National Team from 1995 to 2002, including the U-16, U-21 and Women’s National Team levels.

Her extensive coaching experience includes stops at five collegiate programs and one professional team. She is currently working with the nationally ranked University of California, Berkeley focused on Player Development.

    Head Coach: Dave Perry

Former policeman and now qualified teacher, Dave has been coaching football for over 10 years and has worked/coached at HKIS and CDNIS. Dave was one of the key members in driving forward the girls pro- gramme at HKIS and Tai Tam Tigers.

        Training

Training will be twice weekly, once through the week (most likely Wednesdays) and once on Sat- urdays (most likely very late morning).

The weekday session will be around 430-6pm at a venue in the Southern district (i.e. Wong Chuk Hang, Aberdeen SG or CDNIS).

The Saturday session will be at an 11-a-side pitch TBC, we will aim for from 1130-1300hrs slot to allow our representative players to attend national team training in the afternoon (presumptions made about HKFA schedule!). This training will hopefully be on HK Island but may well not be due to pitch availability.

        Games/Matches

We will enter all possible tournaments. Things change quickly in HK football, and while it is still fragmented in its organisation, there do seem to be more and more opportunities to compete than ever, ie. Nike 5s, street 3s, HKDLA, HKJFL, HKFA leagues etc.

Our main focus will be the HKFA U19s League which runs from October to April. Whilst we aim is to be as successful as possible, our key goal is player development.

In addition to other female teams, games will be arranged that include male opposition. Saturday morning is the traditional time for boys football.
